Northern Ireland launches strategy to restore declining nature

Northern Ireland's agriculture and environment minister Andrew Muir has launched a Nature Recovery Strategy, a long-term, science-based framework to tackle biodiversity loss and restore habitats. About 40% of plants and animals in protected sites fall short of favourable condition, and only one of 49 priority habitat types has favourable status. Muir called it a moral obligation but admitted funding will be needed.
