Alexander Payne sued over 'The Holdovers' script

Screenwriter Simon Stephenson has sued director Alexander Payne, alleging 'The Holdovers' was based on his unproduced script 'Frisco', about a doctor caring for a teenage patient at a children's hospital. The suit cites 46 matching plot incidents and also names screenwriter David Hemingson, Miramax and Focus Features. Payne has previously dismissed the claim as 'the stupidest thing in the world'.
