Study estimates 75% of deceased ex-NFL players had brain disease CTE
About 75% of former NFL players who died between 2008 and 2023 likely had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease, a Boston-based study in Jama Network Open estimates. Researchers analysed records of 2,362 deceased players. Among nearly 400 whose brains were donated, 93.5% showed CTE. It is the first estimate covering all players who died in that period.
