Scientists rediscover how to make ancient Roman colour-changing glass
Scientists at the University of Sheffield have replicated the optical behaviour of the 1,600-year-old Lycurgus Cup, a Roman masterpiece in the British Museum that turns jade green in normal light and ruby red when lit from behind. They used an ancient recipe derived from a fragment of Roman dichroic glass. Technician Dr Lisa Hollands called the work "a labour of love".
