Playback singer KS Chithra stepped away from music after losing her eight-year-old daughter Nandana, born in 2002 to Chithra and husband Vijay Shankar, in a tragic mishap. Lata Mangeshkar played a key role in bringing the 'Nightingale of Malayalam' back into public life, but it was Ilaiyaraaja who finally guided her back to singing.
