Karnataka proposes three-year freeze on new private PU colleges

Karnataka plans a moratorium on permissions for new private pre-university colleges for 2027-28, 2028-29 and 2029-30, because I PU seats keep growing faster than the number of students passing SSLC. Draft amendment rules have been notified for objections. The state currently has 6,398 PU colleges, including 1,371 government, 3,726 private and 811 aided institutions.
