60.6% of children travel over 1 km to school, survey finds

The National Household Travel Survey has found that 60.6% of children aged 6 to 14 travel more than 1 km to reach school. Under Right to Education norms, a primary school for Classes 1 to 5 should be within 1 km, and an upper primary school for Classes 6 to 8 within 3 km. The findings raise questions about school access across India.
