CJI says corporate affairs ministry has 'hijacked' NCLT and NCLAT

Chief Justice Surya Kant orally remarked that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has completely hijacked the company law tribunals NCLT and NCLAT, hurting their autonomy. Hearing a plea by contractual staff, the bench said tribunal presidents must control appointments, suggested deputation as an interim step and phased regular recruitment through UPSC or SSC, and issued notice on the petition.
