Over half of Victoria's lawyers now use AI, but few cut fees
A census of 2,221 lawyers in Australia's Victoria found AI use jumped from 37% to 55% in a year, with 79% relying on consumer chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini. Only 26% said AI had lowered client fees. Lawyers also reported extra work correcting errors from clients who sought advice from chatbots. Criminal law showed the lowest adoption.
