Madras HC lawyers challenge 1965 decision keeping English in higher courts

The Madras High Court Advocates Association has filed a PIL challenging a 1965 Union Cabinet Committee decision that English should remain the common language of the Supreme Court and all High Courts until it is replaced by Hindi. The association argues that barring regional languages violates Articles 14, 19 and 21. A Bench led by Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari will hear it on November 2.
