Nobel physicist Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, who cooled atoms with lasers, dies at 93
French physicist Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, who helped develop techniques to cool atoms to barely above absolute zero using laser light, died on October 22 aged 93. His work, which earned him a share of the 1997 physics Nobel Prize, let scientists manipulate atoms and probe their quantum properties.
