Swiss top court upholds 20-year term for Liberian ex-rebel commander
Switzerland's Federal Supreme Court has upheld the 20-year prison sentence of former Liberian rebel commander Alieu Kosiah for war crimes committed in 1993-95 during Liberia's first civil war. However, it overturned his conviction for crimes against humanity, ruling that the offence, added to Swiss law in 2011, cannot apply retroactively. The decision makes final the first war crimes conviction by a Swiss civilian court.
