Researchers from the Kunming Institute of Botany have identified Dianjunus rex in Yunnan's forests, a fungus whose upright reproductive structures reach 50 cm tall and weigh up to 2.2 kg, the largest known in the Ascomycota group. Growing from the roots of Chinese cork oaks, it represents a new fungal family, Dianjunaceae, according to a study in Frontiers in Fungal Biology.
