Birds and mammals hog ecology research despite being under 1% of species
Two studies by University of New South Wales scientists, who analysed over 1.38 million ecology and evolution papers, found that birds and mammals dominate research and conservation despite making up less than 1% of animal biodiversity. Invertebrates such as insects and arachnids get the least attention, even though animals like lizards and spiders have inspired drugs including Ozempic.
