Switchable tattoo inks appear under UV light and vanish under white light

University of Colorado Boulder researchers have developed PhotoTat tattoo inks using photochromic dyes that appear after two or three seconds of UV light and fade with bright white light. New blue, magenta and yellow inks combine into 16 other colours. Challenges remain: sunlight can trigger them, the blue ink degrades quickly, and safety testing may take years.
