Barrier-less tolling to cut toll lanes on new national highways

New NHAI guidelines say highways using multi-lane free flow tolling will need fewer lanes at toll gates, since vehicles don't stop to pay. Four-lane highways will have eight toll lanes, six-lane roads 10 and eight-lane roads 12, including spares. The 2021 rules set minimums instead. Dwarka Expressway, an eight-lane road, currently has a 32-lane plaza.
