Highland wildfire may kill Scotland's centuries-old 'granny pines'

Forestry and Land Scotland fears many mature Scots pines, known as "granny pines", may die after a huge summer wildfire around Glenmore in the Cairngorms. Losing them removes important seed sources and makes regeneration harder. The blaze burned about 10 sq miles near Aviemore in July and August, but birch, rowan and willow are already regrowing and hillsides are turning green again.
