Next ice age began 2,000 years ago before warming halted it
A Science study of Barnes Ice Cap on Canada's Baffin Island, the last remnant of the Laurentide Ice Sheet, suggests the ice reached its smallest size about 3,600 years ago and began re-expanding roughly 2,000 years ago. Researchers say this early start to a new glaciation continued until about 1960, when human-caused warming reversed it.
