Sudanese diaspora, rights groups oppose UAE nominee for UN chief

Sudanese diaspora members and human rights groups have criticised the UAE's nomination of diplomat Lana Nusseibeh to succeed UN Secretary General António Guterres. They point to her repeated denials that the UAE supports the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, accused of atrocities in Sudan's war, including the October 2025 attack on El Fasher that the UN said bore hallmarks of genocide.
