West Bengal's C-section rate nears one in two births
NFHS-6 data puts Caesarean deliveries in West Bengal at 44.5%, nearly double the 23.8% recorded in 2015-16 and well above the national 27.2%. In Kolkata and North 24 Parganas the rate reaches 67.5%. Private facilities handle about three in ten births but perform almost six in ten C-sections, raising concerns over medically unnecessary surgeries.
