Clot removal may help some stroke patients even 72 hours later
A study in The New England Journal of Medicine found that removing a brain clot helped some ischemic stroke patients recover better at 90 days even when treated 24 to 72 hours after symptoms began. Advanced imaging identified patients with salvageable tissue. However, the procedure raised the risk of brain bleeding and death, and doctors stress patients should still seek care immediately.
