Inland waterway proposed to link Kottayam port with Vizhinjam
Kottayam port has proposed a 180-km inland waterway linking India's first inland container depot with Vizhinjam seaport. Container barges would travel through National Waterways 9 and 3, via Munroe Island, Ashtamudi Lake and the Pampa river, before entering the Arabian Sea at Valiyazheekkal. The trip would take 12 to 14 hours along a route with 17 bridges and a depth of about 2 metres.
