Iron-nickel nanomaterial could cut cost of green hydrogen

Producing green hydrogen by splitting water depends on electrocatalysts, the best of which use scarce, expensive platinum, ruthenium and iridium. Researchers tested whether small amounts of iron and nickel oxides anchored on carbon nanofibers, grown by chemical vapor deposition on a suitable scaffold, could do the job instead. Their results are published in ACS Applied Nano Materials.
