Seepweed turns China's Qingdao coast crimson in autumn
Every autumn, salt marshes and wetlands along the coast of Qingdao in China's Shandong province turn a brilliant red in a phenomenon known as the 'red beach'. The colour comes from the native seepweed Suaeda glauca, which changes from green to crimson as it matures and absorbs water between September and November.
