India will need three lakh chip professionals by 2030, says SRMIST VC

India will require about three lakh semiconductor professionals by 2030, including skilled workers in fabrication, packaging, testing and equipment beyond chip design, SRM Institute of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor C. Muthamizhchelvan said at the Semiconductor Summit 2026. He noted India's chip market already exceeds $50 billion but relies mostly on imports, and urged closer industry-academia collaboration.
