Study estimates 75% of deceased ex-NFL players had brain disease CTE
A study in JAMA Network Open estimates about 75% of former NFL players who died between 2008 and 2023 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease. Researchers analysed records of 2,362 deceased players. Among nearly 400 whose brains were donated, 93.5% showed CTE. It is the first attempt to estimate prevalence across all deceased players, not only donors.
