Seabirds get jet-lagged on long flights home, study finds

Manx shearwaters, pigeon-sized seabirds closely related to albatrosses, suffer a form of jet lag on long Atlantic foraging trips, a new study in Science shows. The birds navigate using the Sun as a compass but reset their internal clocks only at dawn and dusk, so crossing longitudes throws their timing off, making them veer clockwise flying east and anticlockwise flying west.
