India and Volkswagen face off in court over $1.2 billion tax demand

India defended its record $1.2 billion tax demand against Volkswagen in a Mumbai court on Thursday. The government argued that the German carmaker never supplied the required information in time. Volkswagen countered that the demand was raised years too late. The amount is the largest tax demand of its kind ever raised in India.
