Hello Kitty maker Sanrio ends spy drama tie-up after China backlash

Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty, has apologised and ended its merchandise partnership with Japanese spy thriller Vivant after backlash in China. Chinese state media and social media users criticised the show for depicting Chinese agents torturing a Japanese operative. Sanrio said the collaboration contained elements inconsistent with its core values and promised stronger reviews of future partnerships.
