India caps trade margins on 137 cancer drugs after Supreme Court calls mark-ups 'extortion'
From next month, 137 cancer drugs in India will become cheaper after the government extended a 30% trade margin cap to them. The move followed a case by Kerala retired bank employee Sarojam Radhakrishnan, whose treatment cost over ₹63,000 a month. The Supreme Court had called the mark-ups 'extortion'. The government expects prices to fall by up to 70%, saving patients ₹2,500 crore a year.
