Feral dogs pose major threat to vultures in Thar desert, study finds
Free-ranging dogs are a serious threat to vultures at a livestock carcass dump in Bikaner's Jorbeer Conservation Reserve, a study in Biological Conservation has found. Vultures spent half as long feeding at the open dump compared with dog-free enclosures. The site draws migratory Himalayan and Eurasian griffons each winter. India's vulture numbers fell over 90% in the 1990s due to diclofenac.
