Centre proposes mandatory lane-keeping tech for new taxis from 2029
The Centre has proposed making Emergency Lane Keeping Systems and Automatic Command Steering Functionalities mandatory on new passenger cars built for commercial registration, such as taxis, from October 1, 2029. The draft would not apply to existing cabs. From October 2027, any new M1 vehicle already fitted with these features would need to meet the relevant performance standards.
