Museum drawers reveal two new bandicoot species in Australia

A decade-long study of hundreds of museum specimens has identified two previously unrecognised bandicoot species in the genus Isoodon. One, the little brown bandicoot from South Australia, likely went extinct about a century ago. The New Guinea brown bandicoot was elevated to full species. Published in the Australian Journal of Taxonomy, the work also expands the quenda's known range eastward.
