Rajiv Rai says replacing Sanjay Dutt in Yudh ended their close friendship

Filmmaker Rajiv Rai has said replacing Sanjay Dutt in his 1985 directorial debut Yudh broke their deep friendship, as the actor was facing personal issues at the time. Rai said they are now 'friends on the surface' and he sometimes regrets the decision. Dutt was to play Jackie Shroff's role, and the film had to be largely reshot, with Anil Kapoor also replaced.
