Waymo picks Toyota bZ4X as its next robotaxi

Waymo will add a custom Toyota bZ4X electric SUV to its robotaxi fleet, with Toyota building it at its Takaoka plant in Japan and integrating the Waymo Driver on the production line. A test fleet will begin operating in Japan in 2027, ahead of Waymo's planned Tokyo service, with the UK and other markets later. The robotaxi gets extra rear legroom and automatic doors.
