Staying indoors too long can weaken bones, warns orthopaedic surgeon
Spending most of the day indoors harms bone health, says orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sumit Badhwar. Bones respond to sunlight, movement and nutrition, and days spent at desks, in cars and in air-conditioned rooms cut all three. Too little sunlight disrupts vitamin D production, which the body needs to absorb calcium. He warns this affects people in their 20s and 30s too, but is preventable.
