UK opens sponsored resettlement routes for refugees living in India
The UK Home Office has announced three 'safe and legal' sponsorship routes, covering community, work and study, for UNHCR-verified refugees in India and six other countries including Bangladesh and Pakistan. In India's case, Tibetans, Sri Lankan Tamils, Afghans and Rohingya could qualify, but not Indian nationals. Sponsors must fund housing, and first arrivals are expected in autumn 2027.
